Q: How does EONI handle spam, attachments and other bad email?
A:
EONI has been involved in the battle of spam since we started in early 1996.
EONI defines spam as unsolicited email. Usually spam is promoting a product or service.
Current standard email protection systems in place for all eoni.com email accounts as of September 2004 include:
- VIRUS AND ATTACHMENTS:
EONI automatically scans and deletes email messages with forbidden attachments.
click here for more details on forbidden attachmentsAfter scanning for forbidden attachments the attachments are scanned by our email antivirus scanning engine.
The antivirus scanning engine checks for updates every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day. This keeps the engine able to detect the newest viruses at all times.
If an email is found to contain a forbidden attachment or virus the email message is automatically deleted. No notification is sent. Why no notification sent? Many email borne viruses are sent with forged or incorrect email addresses. Sending notifications can create more bad email than silently discarding the message.
- REALTIME BLOCK LISTS
Incoming email is checked against real-time block lists to see if it is being sent from a IP address that is has a history of sending spam
- SMTP PROTOCOL VERIFICATION
scanning for attempts to violate SMTP standard communication protocols while delivering messages.
In addition, EONI also has an optional free email filtering service (enabled unless otherwise specified on all new accouts) that includes:
user adjustable trusted senders and blocked senders list---this allows users to maintain lists of email sender addresses that should always be blocked or that should always be delivered to their mail box.
EONI is dedicated to providing high quality email service.
