This is the physical disk space, expressed in megabytes (mb) allotted for your use on the server hardware.

This is amount of data, measured in gigabytes, that you can transfer to your Website and from your Website to its visitors.

FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, prescribes a traditional method of moving files between your computer and a server. You will need to install an FTP client, or software program, on your computer for this purpose, and configure it with the server or hostname and your credentials (username and password) for accessing files on the server, as required by your host who controls the server. Many suitable FTP programs are available; one of our favorites is the open-source Filezilla, freely downloadable.

These are email addresses that incorporate your domain name, expressed in the form "username@yourdomain.tld". These represent mailboxes capable of password resets, auto-responding messages, email forwarding and more.

Any of your hosting email addresses can be set to automatically respond with predetermined messages such as notices that you are on vacation, etc.

Using a Web browser, you can access your email at an your inbox address in the form of "http://webmail.yourdomain.tld". EONI uses the Horde webmail interface for this service.

This service allows you to designate a single email address that can receive messages that are automatically directed to email addresses in a list that you construct.

To help inhibit(unsolicited bulk email messages (aka "spam"), this service uses SpamAssassin software to implement "tag and deliver" or "delete on receipt" spam filtering. Specific email addresses and domains can be managed with "black" (block) and "white" (allow) listings.

Using your uniquely-assigned username and password, you have access to a set of controls that allows you to configure many aspects and features of your hosting account. Included are controls for adding/removing/changing email addresses, accessing Web builder tools, accessing databases and more.

Webalizer provides traffic and usage statistics about your site and its visitors from an optionally-password-protected Web page accessible with your browser.

PHP (aka PHP: Hypertext PreProcessor; originally Personal Home Page) is a widely-used open source scripting language for programmers to create dynamic Web sites, in which content is not fixed or static, but can vary based on user interactions, database information and other changeable factors. EONI hosting provides server compatibility with version 2.0 and above of Perl, a programming language, itself derived from the C programming language, that has been popular since the earliest days of the Web.

EONI hosting is compatible with server side includes (SSI), which are small files of programming code designed to be inserted into other files or pages, using SSI programming rules.

A subdomain is effectively an additional domain within your domain, and is represented in the form, "http://subdomain.yourdomain.tld". You can create and manage additional subdomains, giving them exclusive FTP access and separately-installed applications.

MySQL is the world's most popular open source database, and is based on Structured Query Language (SQL). EONI's version 5.x offering is suitable for dynamic, database-driven Web sites. WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and PHPBB are example of applications underpinned by MySQL; an instance is required with each such application, but can also be used for your standalone Web-based custom database developed by you or your database programmer. DNS (Domain Name Service or Domain Name System) is a scheme that allows traffic to be routed over the Internet by translating domain names that are expressed as names readable by and meaningful to humans in special numbers (IP addresses) tracked by the system. EONI hosting DNS management tools allow advanced users to redirect their domain to different locations or IP addresses, if needed.

WordPress is an open source Content Management System (CMS), often used as a blog publishing application, powered by PHP and MySQL. Drupal is an open source Content Management System written with the PHP scripting language. It is capable of running on any of several SQL-based databases, including MySQL. While Drupal has a sophisticated interface for custom programming, it can be readily used by non-technical content authors; Drupal does not require knowledge of HTML or FTP. phpBB (PHP Bulletin Board) is open source forum (aka bulletin board) software written with the PHP scripting language and using the MySQL database. Knowledge of HTML or FTP is not required. Once activated for your hosting account by EONI, you can create a community of users that can post and comment upon discussion topics in a forum setting with configurable security levels and much more.
