Please bear in mind a child could go to Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail or other companies and get a free email account that the parents do not have knowledge of.
If the Parent would like to have an option using an eoni.com email account here is a method used by a parent of a child:
1. Parent calls EONI and orders a new email account for their child and added email filtering for the child's email account.
2. Parent never tells the child the email password and parent makes absolutely sure the child does not have access to the password.
3. Parent sets up Outlook (or Outlook Express, Eudora or some other email software on the computer) for the child to use to read their email. (If you are using Windows XP a separate user profile may help, ask our support if you do not know how to do this). The email software can save the email account password so it never has to be typed by the child.
4. Parent logs into the EONI web mail system for the child account, clicked Settings, Reporting and unchecked the box that says "Generate report". Parent also clicks on black list (also known as blocked senders) and clicked Add then clicked the domain box and simply entered:
*
This makes every email address on the Internet be blocked into the email filtering system quarantine so the child does not see it with regular email. At this point send any email to the child account and see that it goes into the quarantine and not into the child in box. This is a good test to make sure all email is blocked.
5. Parent then clicks white list (also known as trusted senders) and clicked Add then selected Email and entered the specific email address of a family relatives that parent determines was appropriate for the child to communicate with. Continue adding additional email addresses one-by-one that are appropriate for the child to receive email from.
Nothing is perfect something could possibly slip by. Email can easily be forged. Senders of email would not necessarily know the child has a filter to prevent them from receiving email from unlisted senders. However the email filter allows the child to have the freedom to receive email with the parents knowing a reasonable filter is in place to allow only people the parents place on the child's white list/trusted senders to send email to the child.
There is no substitute for parental supervision of all Internet activity.
We hope these options help.
