Support: Questions and Answers Detail

Q: How did I get this junk email I do not want? What do I do to stop this? How do I stop the spam?
A: You may receive a few email messages (or a large quantity) that you do not want.

You may ask questions such as:

Q: "I did not ask for this, how did the sender get my email address?"

A: The sender may have acquired your name because you provided your email address to a company, your email address was found listed on a web site, or is used on a mailing list you may participate in. The sender may have also guessed your email address by sending thousands (or millions) of emails to EONI with variations on common email addresses (jeff, jeffa, jeffb, jeffc, jeffd etc, etc all @eoni.com). EONI has systems in place to reduce the chances of this type of "dictionary attack" to be successful, however you may still receive email even though you never gave your email address to anyone.

Q: "Did EONI sell my name to the sender?"

A: No. EONI never has disclosed our customer email addresses to anyone. EONI has no plans to disclose email addresses in the future.

Q: The sender or recipients of this email message look like they are fake is this possible?

A: Yes. The email addresses listed on the
To:
From:
Cc:
line are all very simple to forge. Some emails are sent with your email address listed as the From: address. Some emails do not list you on the To: or Cc: lines. All of these inconsistencies are possible. EONI does not encourage emails to be sent this way...however it is common practice within the Internet you should be aware of.

Some email are sent that include your email address on the Bcc: when the email is sent. The Bcc: (blind carbon copy) line is not shown in the message when you receive it. This is another way an email can be sent to you without your email address appearing on the To: or Cc: lines.

Q: "How do I make these messages stop arriving in my email?"

A: EONI has a free email filtering service for @eoni.com addresses. This service allows you to have a system automatically filter your messages and identify unwanted messages and keep them out of your incoming email box. Normally, it is enabled unless it is specifically disabled. If you are having trouble with spam, please talk to an EONI support technician, who will be able to make sure it is enabled.
