Q: Disconnecting from the Internet locks up my system

Open Control Panel (go to Start, Settings, Control Panel), then double-click Network. From the components in the window, click once on TCP then go down and click Properties. In the resulting tabs choose WINS Configuration, then check "Disable WINS Resolution" and then click on OK. OK your way back out and then shut down and restart your system. This works in most cases.
