Support: Questions and Answers Detail

Q: How can I minimize signal interference when I wirelessly connect my laptop to my router?
A: Although EONI does not provide free support[see NOTE] for your home or business wi-fi network or your local network-attached computers, we can give you some general tips or guidelines for troubleshooting a wireless connection to your EONI access point:

1. Because your router typically operates in the 2.4GHz frequency band, avoid placing it near other 2.4GHz equipment, such as cordless phones, baby monitors, ham radios, wireless security cameras, wireless game controllers, "bluetooth" keyboards, mice, etc., or (!) microwave ovens.

2. If you must coexist with a 2.4GHz cordless phone or other device, try setting your router to operate in Channel 10 (Channel 6 or "auto" is typically the default). You may also find success by simply trying other channels as well. Try to make sure that you operate in a different channel than a nearby neighbor with his own wi-fi network.

3. Create as much distance as is practical between your wireless router and other 2.4GHz equipment.

4. If you cannot otherwise solve interference issues with your 2.4GHz phone, consider replacing it with a phone operating at 5.8GHz or with a DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) 6.0 phone.

NOTE: If you have a router, EONI broadband -- whether DSL or wireless -- service is defined as providing Internet access from EONI to your access point (router or network interface in a directly-connected single computer). Setup, configuration and troubleshooting for any computer or other equipment you may connect to your router (whether wired or wirelessly) is basically your responsibility. Of course, you can engage EONI for custom networking services on a fee basis.

Also, note that EONI Wireless Internet service refers to wireless transmission between EONI and your premises, and is not to be confused with "wireless" operation of laptops and computer equipment such as wireless mouses, keyboards, etc.
